There are magical corners all over Ubud. A lovely way to start the day in Ubud is by walking in the countryside.
At Komaneka at Tanggayuda, we can show you the rural side of Balinese daily life with a morning Keliki Trekking. It starts around 8 or 9 am, before the day gets hot. A personal assistant will guide your journey, carrying mineral water and a towel.
The morning trek starts at the resort. Your assistant will lead you over a bridge behind the resort, then through tropical vegetation and beautiful rice fields.
This is a great chance for you to witness the life of Balinese farmers. Along the rice fields you will see farmers carrying out their daily activities — tending their fields, bathing their cows, etc. If you are lucky enough to be here during the harvest season, you can join them for a moment, trying your hand at traditional rice harvesting and truly being part of the rural landscape.
Or if the rice is ripening, you might help them chase wild birds from the fields. The farmers do this by tying long ropes fitted with colorful cloth and tins cans around the fields. When you pull on these, the noise frightens the birds away and protects the grain. You may also ask your assistant to explain the ingenious traditional Balinese irrigation system.
Beyond the rice fields is the village of Keliki. There you and your assistant can visit a traditional house. Keliki is home to many Balinese artists that you can visit. The traditional painters of Keliki specialize in very small paintings of daily life. You may want to buy a few to take home.
At the end of this gentle two-hour trek, you will finish at the Hyang Api temple in Keliki. There you will be met by our driver to bring you back to the resort.
